Backblaze B2 adds an S3-compatible API

Existing S3 tools gain a new route to B2 alongside its native API.

Backblaze B2 →

Backblaze has introduced an S3-compatible API for B2 Cloud Storage in public beta. The addition lets applications and tools built around supported S3 operations connect to B2 without using only its native API.

The change broadens the integration route for backups, hosted files and application storage.

Before changing an endpoint

  • Check the operations the client needs.
  • Set the correct regional endpoint and credentials.
  • Test multipart uploads, listing and error handling.

API compatibility can reduce migration work, but it does not make every storage feature or billing rule identical to Amazon S3. Data movement, retention settings and delivery traffic still need to be considered when comparing the full cost of the new setup.
