Google has introduced Cloud Run, a serverless deployment option for containerized applications. The announcement includes a fully managed service and a Cloud Run on GKE route for teams using Kubernetes.
The goal is to let developers package an application as a container and deploy it without configuring a conventional server fleet.
Choosing the route
- The managed service removes more infrastructure work.
- The GKE option fits teams already operating Kubernetes.
- Container packaging can help reuse application code, but does not remove dependencies on connected cloud services.
Cloud Run is initially a preview. Teams evaluating it should check runtime behavior, request handling and service limits before moving a production application, rather than assuming every container workload fits unchanged.
