Cloudflare has made D1 generally available, bringing a managed SQL database option to its application platform. The same announcement moves Hyperdrive and Workers Analytics Engine to production readiness.
D1 provides an integrated data option for applications built around Workers, while Hyperdrive serves a different role by connecting to existing databases.
Choose the data path
An application needs to distinguish between creating a managed database and accessing a database it already operates elsewhere. Data placement, queries and supported interfaces affect that choice.
The release broadens the stack available alongside Workers and R2, but each service has its own usage limits and pricing. A Workers estimate should not silently stand in for the bill of the whole application.
