Hetzner launches S3-compatible Object Storage

Object Storage adds a managed bucket service beside Hetzner's servers and cloud VMs.

Hetzner Cloud →

Hetzner has introduced Object Storage for unstructured data, including backups, archives and application files. The service uses an S3-compatible interface and stores objects in buckets rather than exposing a conventional block disk.

The launch locations are Falkenstein, Nuremberg and Helsinki. The initial offer combines a monthly base charge with included storage and outbound traffic, followed by usage charges above those allowances.

When comparing it

  • Match the bucket location to the application and its users.
  • Check the specific S3 operations required by the client.
  • Include the base charge and transfer allowance in the budget.

The service is relevant to teams already running Hetzner compute who want files to survive independently of a particular VM. It is described in the profile but is not yet included in the storage calculator.
