Oracle Cloud Infrastructure has added Ampere A1 virtual-machine shapes based on Arm processors. Customers can choose the memory and OCPU count rather than selecting only a fixed machine size.
The release applies to virtual machines. Oracle says a bare-metal Arm shape is coming later.
Before moving a workload
- Check that the application and its dependencies support Arm.
- Build or select container images for the correct architecture.
- Test the required capacity in the intended region.
Configurable shapes can help match resources to an application, but an Arm machine is not a transparent replacement for every x86 deployment. Processor compatibility, software licensing and workload measurements should guide the choice alongside the published compute price.
