Scaleway has announced Serverless Functions and Containers at Web Summit. The services let developers deploy code or container images without managing the underlying server infrastructure.
The launch adds a managed execution route beside Scaleway’s compute, Kubernetes and object-storage products.
Choosing the right building block
- Functions fit event-driven pieces of application logic.
- Containers support applications packaged with their runtime dependencies.
- Persistent data still needs an appropriate database or storage service.
The managed model changes who operates the platform, rather than removing every application responsibility. Runtime limits, data placement and usage-based charges should be checked together before moving an existing service.
