UpCloud has launched Managed Kubernetes, adding a managed container-orchestration option to its cloud infrastructure.
The initial release is available in Helsinki and Frankfurt and uses Kubernetes 1.26.3. Features such as autoscaling and additional private-network capabilities are part of the roadmap rather than promises that every feature is available at launch.
Where it helps
- Run applications using existing Kubernetes deployment tooling.
- Reduce the work of maintaining the cluster’s control plane.
- Keep worker nodes and connected data services within a chosen deployment location.
Teams still need to operate the application itself, including its resource requests, storage and recovery. For a small project, the benefits of Kubernetes should be weighed against a more direct application-hosting option.
