Where it fits
Akamai acquired Linode and brought its cloud-computing services into the Akamai Cloud offering. The familiar workload is still an application running on virtual machines with storage, networking and optional managed services. Akamai’s CDN and security products have a different purpose from those compute resources.
How pricing works
Instance plans, extra transfer, storage and selected managed services form the budget. A compute account does not automatically include every Akamai delivery or security product. Compare the application’s origin infrastructure and its public delivery route separately.
Choosing a setup
This entry keeps the Linode name visible so that existing users can find the current service. DigitalOcean and Vultr are relevant alternatives for VM-based applications. A managed deployment platform changes the amount of server administration required.
