Where it fits
Clerk combines a hosted identity service with UI components and application SDKs. Organizations support accounts shared by teams, while session and user-management features connect to the application. The surrounding app still needs its own database and hosting.
How pricing works
The current plans use monthly retained users, which differ from monthly active users or total registrations. Organization features, dashboard seats and selected add-ons also affect the bill. Clerk Billing is a separate way to connect application subscriptions with identity; it is not the same charge as the application’s Clerk plan.
Choosing a setup
Clerk is useful for a web application that benefits from prebuilt account screens and a close SDK integration. Compare the required enterprise-login and organization features with Auth0, or consider an integrated backend when its authentication is sufficient.
