Where it fits

Render runs application services rather than handing over a general-purpose server. Web services, workers and scheduled jobs can form one backend, with managed data services and private networking alongside them. Static sites are a different resource type from an always-running application process.

How pricing works

A workspace plan and the compute used by each service are separate parts of the budget. Database capacity, persistent disks, bandwidth and optional features can add costs. Free resources have limits and behaviour that should be checked before using them for production.

Choosing a setup

Render is useful for applications with a web process plus background work and a database. Its Workflows product handles durable tasks, which is different from simply running a permanent worker. Railway, Heroku and Fly.io offer other deployment models.
