Where it fits
Supabase brings several backend components around a Postgres database. Authentication, storage, APIs, realtime features and functions can share the project’s data and access policies. The hosted platform handles infrastructure, while application permissions and schema design remain with the development team.
How pricing works
A plan fee and each project’s resource usage form different parts of the bill. Compute, storage, bandwidth and selected features can have separate limits or charges. Self-hosting the open-source software is a different operating model from buying the hosted service.
Choosing a setup
Supabase is useful when a relational database is central to a web or mobile application. Firebase provides another integrated backend approach; Neon offers a more focused Postgres route. Those alternatives differ in APIs and operational features, not only in price.
